Below is a searchable map of over 8,500 vets in the US/Canada and over 2,000 vets in the UK known to be owned by private equity or large corporates. Many of the consolidators will retain a practice’s branding and name post-acquisition and their goal is often to maintain the appearance of a locally-run practice. Without directly asking the practice it is sometimes impossible to determine the ownership of a given practice. With that in mind, we have spent a large amount of time compiling a growing list of over 6000 practices nationwide that have private equity or corporate owners. This list is downloadable as an Excel file (above) and you can browse the map above. The goal is to enable you to know the owneship of the practices in your local area so you can make an informed choice. Please be aware that while every effort was made to ensure this list is accurate, there may be errors, omissions and ownership may change over time. It is always advisable to check with the practice yourself. Limitations of the data Building this list was and is a painstaking process of combing consolidator websites, practice websites, job listings and news articles that reference practices. It is also thanks to the many emails I get from people informing us of an acquired practice or even a consolidator we’re not aware of. Gathering all the details of the practice including coordinates for the map often involves manual data entry with a sprinkling of AI. Due to the fact that acquisitions are not always publicly disclosed, this cannot be a complete list but the errors are more likely to be of omission rather than inclusion. Over time ownership might change but I suspect it is much more likely for practices to change hands between consolidators than to go independent. If you see any errors please contact us . United Kingdom added to the map The UK has seen a similar wave of PE-backed veterinary practice acqusition driven by six large groups - IVC Evidensia, CVS Group, Medivet, VetPartners, Linnaeus and Pets at Home. We’ll be adding more detail here, but as the UK has a special place in our hearts I’ve added over 2,000 UK practices to the map. If you know of practices that are acquired by consolidators please contact us to let us know with as many details as possible (primarily practice name, address, phone number, acquirer and the source of that information).
